The ICN is delighted to release our free and newly updated 2025 IC Food List. Expanded to 16 pages, this is the first guide to discuss why patients often have very different diet intolerances using the new IC phenotyping system. Patients with Hunner’s lesions, for example, have the most diet sensitivities and may need to be on the diet for longer periods of time in comparison to patients with pelvic floor dysfunction who may be able to reintroduce many foods once their muscles (and related blood vessels) have healed. We answer many of your questions in a simple Q&A. You’ll find both the food lists developed by research studies and our longer three column list to help you add more foods to your diet.

Familiar Three Column Format

While still in the original three column format of “Usually Bladder Friendly,” “Foods Worth Trying” and “Foods To Avoid,” you’ll find the lists broken down into key categories including:

  • Beverages
  • Grains, Breads & Pastries
  • Spices
  • Vitamins & Supplements
  • Snacks & Sweets
  • Condiments, Dressings, Oils & Soups
  • Food Additives
  • Dairy
  • Meats
  • Fruits & Vegetables

“Bladder Friendly Foods” are those which most patients tolerate well.

“Foods Worth Trying Cautiously” are generally safe though they may irritate more sensitive bladders. Try in small quantities first.

“Foods to Avoid” are those well known for triggering flares.

Foods with a (+) sign can be soothing during an IC flare.

You will also find discussions about water, gluten, artificial sweeteners, sugar & food chemicals and preservatives.

Future Suggestions Welcome!

This is a living document and we welcome all questions and suggestions for foods that may not be listed. Obviously, we can’t list them all but we will certainly try! Just email your question or suggestion to: icnetwork (a) mac.com.
